Afterglow Echoplex
The process of making an analog mixtape is something of a lost art these day. Today, anyone can create a playlist of easily-available songs without digging through piles of vinyl records, cassettes or CD's, worrying about time constraints, or painstakingly writing out the bands and songs featured on these cassette mixes on a J-card.
My name is Anthony King and I am the host of Afterglow Echoplex. I love independent, underground music sub-genres like shoegaze, dreampop, noise-rock, post-rock, post-punk, jangle, twee, goth, darkwave, indie hip-hop, etc. Much like the compilation cassettes and CD-R's of yore, the mixtapes on each of these episodes were painstakingly handcrafted just for you; yes, YOU! I hope you enjoy 'em!
Every episode of the Afterglow Echoplex podcast is not a playlist, but rather a virtual mixtape featuring back-to-back songs by independent, self-funded artists you might not be privy to... yet. Each episode's 60-minute mixtape is produced in direct collaboration with the bands and musicians featured on the show. The basic tenet of this podcast is to highlight the incredibly talented artists you're hearing here, while getting their staggeringly amazing music out to a wider audience.
It's my hope that, in listening to the carefully crafted mixtapes on each of these podcast episodes, you, the listener, will seek out and support the talented and hard-working artists you discovered here. Buy some records! Go to their shows! Wear their T-shirts! Show 'em some love!
If you are in a band and create music similar to the hazy, swaying, feedback-drenched gossamer sounds you've heard here, why not send in one of your songs for consideration on a future Afterglow Echoplex mixtape episode? Please email WAV or FLAC files of your song(s) to: afterglowechoplex@gmail.com.
As with the bands featured here, this podcast would not be possible without you. Thank you for listening.
